Movie Review: The Depressing Emotions of The Girl On The Train

Title: The Girl On The Train
Running Time: 112minutes
Movie Stars: Emily Blunt, Rebecca Ferguson, Haley Bennett, Justin Theroux, Luke Evans, Allison Janney, Γ‰dgar RamΓrez and Lisa Kudrow
Based on the novel of Paula Hawkins

When can you say that a book was perfectly made into a movie?
For me, the only way you can say that it was perfectly made into a movie: when you felt the same emotions you had when you read it, or when you felt connected to the actors/actresses of the said movie.

Guess what, I felt depressed when I’ve watched The Girl On The Train, which means it was made almost perfectly into a movie.

Introduction:

Last October 16, my sister and I got to spend a quality time by watching movies. Well, I rarely watch movies since tickets are too expensive, and I’m not really into those movies. The only time I do watch a movie: if it was a book turned into big screens. πŸ™‚

The Girl on The Train (TGoTT), is such an amazingly written masterpiece for me since I really felt connected while reading it. Upon hearing the news that it will be turned into a movie, I got excited since I can’t wait to see the characters being portrayed by acclaimed artists.

About the movie:

TGoTT, was quite a dragging one as it started. (Same with the book)

Rachel’s viewpoint/story was introduced first. For me, it was almost the same as the book.

Then, Megan’s viewpoint/story. The character who gave life to Megan looks like Jennifer Lawrence. I swear. And gosh, such an awesome actress for me. She portrayed Megan just the way I imagined. Thumbs-up πŸ™‚

Lastly, Ana. An angelic face for me (pertaining to the actress). Such a stunning one, though she lacked emotions in some parts, and she only appeared a few times from the start, which is quite disturbing for me since I couldn’t remember all her scenes in the book. πŸ™‚

Three stunning ladies who is connected because of one man. (And yes, if you haven’t watch the movie or haven’t read the book, this part is somehow a SPOILER ONE. So please, excuse yourself immediately). One man who destroyed all of them, but the worst victim is Rachel since she was alive but dying inside, unlike Megan who is six feet below the ground; she can’t feel the miseries.

Yey or Nay?

For me, it was a Yey since I felt all the emotions the movie had to offer. I felt depressed; felt sorry for Megan and Rachel; felt betrayed for Ana and Rachel; and most especially, I felt lost – lost in their world.

What is the movie all about? (For those who haven’t read the book)

TGoTT is all about a woman (Rachel) who always rides a train going to her work place. Everyday, she sit on the same place and watches a couple who she calls Jess and Jessie. For her, this couple is a perfect example of what a relationship should be. Until one day, Jessie, was missing and before it happened, Rachel, from the windows of the train, saw a man who is not Jess, hanging around with Jessie.

In order to help, Rachel told what she saw to Jess – from that day, everything will turn upside down for Rachel, Jess (as what Rachel calls him), Ana, and the rest of the characters.

TGoTT is all about the unsolved case of Megan (the real name of Jessie); what’s really happening to Rachel; and the pretentiously happy life of Ana.

Recommendation:

Now, I will jot down two options here: One for Yes, and another one for No.

Yes – if you want films full of dialogues and less actions. Also, if you’re a fan of depression.

No – if you want your stamina to be excited and if you want your mind to be at peace. Why? Because TGoTT lacks actions, therefore can’t offer your stamina a thrilling movement; and you won’t be at peace since you will be depressed.

There you have it, hope I offered some help to all of you lovely readers.

It’s More Fun in the Philippines: 31st Negros Trade Fair (One Sweet Spot)

Hi there earthling creatures, I’m back! πŸ™‚ Today’s agenda: Tell the wonders of Negros Trade Fair.

Remember the last post I did about meeting Morgan, and how I ended up in an event? Well, this is the coverage of that said event. For those who haven’t read it, the title of that said blogpost is, “The Unexpected Everything: An Earthling Day to Meet the Lovely Morgan Matson.”

Strolling around Glorietta while carrying my pint of ice cream from Baskin Robbins, I’ve noticed that there’s an on-going event in their event hall so I’ve decided to explore what’s in store.

The said event was created to honor the inner treasures of Negros. Meaning an exhibit of Negros’ products – from food up to clothing. Well, it was crowded and everyone was up to have a taste of its food, and its originally handcrafted products. Maybe lots of you are wondering what’s Negros; well, it is a place located somewhere in Visayas (never been there so I can’t tell most of you about it. Honestly, I can narrate something since I’ll probably search google, but since I’m a bit lazy, I hope you can just do that).

Back to my experienced, I easily got hooked to Jarvis Gourmet Foods while roaming around since it was one of the nearest stall I saw upon entering the venue. Well, I bought 3 pieces ensaymada flavored dulce leche for only Php 100. (Nice find especially since I’m looking forward for a snack during office breaks). Then, I’ve tasted their spreads; yes, I’ve been ultimately guilty since I bought one – Saluyot Cheese Spread. Of course, my guilty pleasure did not stop there. I even strolled to the entire parameters of that place, and even saw Joel Torre since his restaurant named “Inasal sa Dasalan” was one of the food exhibitors. Well, I bought some delicacies from the Province of Negros, and I swear it was heaven sent. Name of store: El Ideal. πŸ™‚ Lots of stall to explore, but due to exhaustion, and not enough budget, I wasn’t able to buy and try almost half of what was there. Spare me for some apologies since I wasn’t able to take proper pictures of some stalls as well in the said event since it was jampacked. Anyway, will definitely look forward for events like this one since treasuring the wonders of Philippines is really one magnificent thing to do to attract tourists, and to inculcate to other Filipinos the blood of glory that lies in our culture.

P.S. Next time, will bring lots of money to be prepared.

Xoxo,

Seasielle

As promised, here are the not-so-blurred-photos. πŸ˜‚

Finding “Me” in the midst of the crowd.

Must try. No preservatives, and a healthy spread for all ages. Saluyot Cheese Spread. πŸ€—πŸ˜˜πŸ˜Š

The Unexpected Everything: An Earthling Day to Meet the Lovely Morgan Matson

“Morgan Matson is coming to town!” πŸ‘Ό

After almost a year of being absent for book signing events, finally, I made it for Matson’s.

A lot has changed since the last time I attended a book signing event. Anyway, I won’t make a long-dramatic-post since I have nothing much to tell.

Papa, as usual, lined up for me. He got number forty-two (42). I only have two books of Matson because I can’t afford to buy everything since I’m currently saving up for something. I bought Since You’ve Been Gone this January, and The Unexpected Everything last month.

The said event took place at National Book Store – Glorietta branch last September 18, 2016. I arrived at around 3pm and basically just in time for the signing. I’ve missed the program, and according to some bibliophiles, they gave Morgan a birthday cake, and sang for her. So disheartened to miss that moment.😒

I didn’t say anything when I met her (Morgan) except from the fact that I just responded “I’m good” when she asked how am I; then, she said what a nice name do I have. Well, thank you for that Morgan.

After that said event, my father and I went to JCo to eat some snacks; unknowingly, I already have other plans so I excused myself and told my father I’ll just text him.

What was my other agenda? Go and visit Baskin Robbins and get some pint of ice cream. Yes, I’ve been craving for Baskin, and what a perfect time to do it but that one fine Saturday. After almost a week of stressful work, surrounded by chaotic officemates, I can’t help but thanked Baskin Robbins for existing in this world.

I ordered a pint of Love Potion (honestly I don’t know the ingredients of that flavor). How do I end up ordering that one? Mama told me it is delicious, and for me not to order strawberry for the nth time in my life.

After ordering a pint, I walked around Glorietta and notice that there was an on-going event. Yes, such a nice move for me to go to that event, and let my ice cream turned into water. πŸ™

Anyway, will tell you guys about that event in another post.

Xoxo,
Seasielle❀

August: Reunions, Moods, and Wonderful Moments

Gloomy days were gone;
Wonderful moments have arrived.

Ten years had gone by;
Replaced by one month of laughter, memories, and happiness shone over each others faces.

Old friends came by to say “Hello, even just for a minute.”
Goodbyes were longer; another day spent thinking of wonderful memory to treasure.

Life on the path of brick road;
Walking along green meadows;
Chirping of birds hovered all over;
Indeed, memories of last month will be painted wonderfully in each other’s heart.

Getting old, but not too old for wonderful moments.

Awkward moments were gone; only laughter were left.

Wonderful 10 years of friendship πŸ€—

The Not-so-Wonders of Eating: Diner on the 16th

August is known for its gloomy weather: non-stop rain which causes floods, and mood swing for others.

The cold atmosphere made us (my sister&I) more hungry than before; since we’ve watched Taste Buddies went to grab some bite from Diner on the 16th, and even recommended it, we’ve decided to pamper ourselves on its menu.

It was a blockbuster rainy Wednesday for Diner on the 16th; we’ve just took the seat near the bar for us to be accommodated inside. (Take note: there’s no table on that particular side; one of the personnel just brought the table outside and placed it there just to accommodate us; good customer service πŸ™‚

My sister and I decided to order Soy Ginger Glazed Chicken and Ube Waffles for Php 295. The said menu includes the following: 3pcs Soy Ginger Glazed Chicken and 4mini slices of Ube Waffles.
Diner on 16th is best known for their milkshakes; hence, that was our chance to indulge on their milkshakes. I ordered Diner on 16th’s Signature Milkshake for a price of Php 190. (Strawberry Cotton Candy Cone+Chocolate milk and Strawberry flavored pretzels (which I think is the one you can buy from the grocery store)+Strawberry Chocolate and Caramel Syrup+Custard biscuits+Chocolate covered mallows) In short, diabetes overload to its highest level; while my sister ordered White Chocolate Strawberry Milkshake for a price of Php 189. (White Chocolate Syrup+Strawberry Covered Biscuit Stick+Strawberry Donut+Wafer Stick+Strawberry Filled Mini Cookies).

Overall Satisfaction – Rating scale of 5 (5 being the highest):

Venue: 3
Reason/s: The said establishment is located in front of Ace Water Spa, but you have to walk in an alley since it is inside.

Food: 3
Reason/s: Nothing special. I think it is overrated because the waffles was just two slices which was cut into four; the soy ginger glazed chicken was all wings; the milkshakes ingredients were all available in grocery stores (I mean, it was already made; no effort exerted except for the decorations of those said ingredients), also nothing special on its taste.

Value for Money: 3
Reason/s: Somehow it was a new experience for us, but not really worth it base on the food they serve+service charge applies.

Recommendation:
I still do recommend this place to all food enthusiasts. Try, explore, and rate your experience since we are all entitled of our own.

Thank you, and God bless!

Since You’ve Been Gone: by Morgan Matson

INTRODUCTION:

“Don’t be afraid to do something you’re not used to. Taking risks are the best part of one’s life.” – Seasielle

Best friends forever – words that we usually say to our closest friend ever that sometimes we feel that he/she is a part of our family more than ever; but what if one day, your best friend just disappeared and all she left behind is a to-do list? What are you willing to risk just to see him/her again?

Since You’ve Been Gone is a self discovery story about how far are you willing to let go and to sacrifice for a person that you love.

HELLO BOOK:

Sloane, the best friend of Emily just disappeared without saying any word to her. She just left a to-do list.

Emily, upon receiving the to-do list was in doubt at first; until she decided to give it a try if it’s the only way she can have Sloane back.

With an unexpected help from Frank Porter, Emily faced her fears and learned to let go of her insecurities as she unfolded all the activities written under the to-do list.

THOUGHTS:

I like the way Since You’ve Been Gone is written: very light, yet an appealing one.

We all have that kind of best friend who always push us beyond our boundaries; letting us do crazy, yet unforgettable stuff. Those things that we never thought we would do in our lifetime, but ended up fulfilled because we achieved something that we can be proud of.

Upon reading this book, I remembered my best friend; we’ve been friends ever since we were in lower school, and maintain our communication through social media. Unfortunately, we stop seeing each other last 2014, though I still leave a personal message to her Facebook and other social media accounts. It just goes that way: communicating through social media, yet no bonding moments. I honestly missed all the things we’ve done together, and those we should be doing right now. I really felt connected to Emily because her fierceness, and courage radiates as she completed the to-do list just to see Sloane back. If I’m in her shoe, I’m also willing to do such things if it is the only way I can see my best friend. Honestly, I’m always the one making the first move, yet there’s still no progress. Hoping that we can see each other soon.

Going back to the book, I love the friendship of Frank Porter and Emily. It’s so genuine, and so natural. Finally, I’m hooked to their playlist. I even downloaded half of it πŸ™‚

Someday, I wanna meet a Frank Porter as well. I guess, I should include him to those fictional male characters that turned me on. Hello from the other side, Frank. πŸ™‚

RECOMMENDATION:

I’m highly recommending Since You’ve Been Gone to all of you. Great job for Ms. Morgan Matson; cheers for more amazing books!

Thank you for reading. God Bless!

The Girl On The Train: by Paula Hawkins

Infidelity will never stop unless the person committing it becomes faithful. – Seasielle

INTRODUCTION:

Commuting is part of our daily lives. Sometimes, the ride is too long or too short; sometimes, there are stories that we had created on our mind; or there are strangers who we become friends and shared stories with; nonetheless, we are the story.

HELLO BOOK:

The Girl On The Train confused me on some parts, but then, I immediately got hooked once I felt the connection and the thrilled that got me on.

I felt lonely for Rachel and Megan. They wanted attention, and all they got was temporary love which left them more broken than before.

THOUGHTS:

At first, I thought that person was the one who did the crime because of insanity or split personality disorder, but as the story went through, I was so shocked to discover who finally did it. I just felt unconvinced by the way it was done because for me, there would be a solution for that one.

Paula Hawkins is such a genius; for her first novel she had written such an incredible one. I really liked the twist, and everything about this book. I’m hoping to read more of her books.

Depression is really an issue in our fast growing world. With all the technologies and medical advances, still, there’s no cure for depression or doctors and/or psychiatrist can’t detect it immediately. Sometimes, the damaged has been done; nevertheless, it was lead to broken pieces of one’s dream and/or for the person to be broken.

Let us not be a victim of depression and/or the people that we cared for. I’m not an expert who can say what to do or not to, but I know the feeling of a person depressed because I once felt it. To avoid it, always unwind every week; talk to someone; and let us not live a person’s side, especially in times when they needed us most (meaning they’re the ones who started to say “Hi” or the ones who dropped by just to see us). Let us always have a spare time to spend for ourselves and for our loved ones.

RECOMMENDATION:

I do recommend this book, especially to those people who wants a good turn around of stories.

Thanks for reading. God Bless!
